Dear Families,
Welcome to Third Grade! My name is Ms. Shin. My goal for this year is to raise academic expectations for the students and make our classroom a place of rigorous learning. I always tell my students that they have the right to learn in the classroom and that they are on the path to college and become the best they can be for their lives. This year will also be full of fun ideas and activities. We will work towards this goal by working on different projects with focus on social studies and science.
Here is a little bit about me. I was born and raised in South Korea. I got a B.A. in International Relations and a M.A in Language, Literacy and Sociocultural Studies. I like taking care of my houseplants and playing the guitar in my spare time. My husband is also a teacher and he works with international students at UNM. We are living with Curly, a cheerful shepherd-mix dog who can never get enough of us.

I would like to work closely with you because I believe communication between home and school is vital in education. The best way to contact me is through my school email mikyung.shin@aps.edu. I will try to return all emails at the end of the school day.
I look forward to having a wonderful school year with both you and your child!
