The Family Support Specialist Program supports students and families in overcoming barriers to learning by connecting families, school and community to improve school and family success.

Support and empower families by guiding and connecting them to independently navigate resources available in their community.

What does a Family Support Specialist do?

Family Support Specialists develop relationships with school personnel, parents/caregivers, and students to:

Serve as a liaison and break down barriers that interfere with the student's ability to learn.
Connect families to school and community support services and programs in the area.
Encourage and facilitate family involvement in their child's learning.
Engage the parents in school activities to promote their child's educational success.
Promote positive behavior and attitudes in students through positive skill-building.
Help link families to necessities and resources such as food, clothing, and housing information.

Community Partner Symposium Resource Book 2025: Community-based services for parents/caregivers in the areas of financial stability, physical and mental health, and family support.

Stark County Transportation Resource Guide: Stark County Health Department developed this resource guide in 2025.
