Focusing on the Present

Our thoughts these days may dwell on the past, longing of the days when teachers saw our students in person, days when things felt more comfortable and life felt more safe. Meanwhile, some of us may be holding out for a future when things return to “normal”, while at the same time we worry about what the world may look like when we get there.

There is some benefit to this. Our thoughts of the past can lead us towards gratitude. Or in other cases they may help us learn from prior mistakes. There can be wisdom in planning for the future. And there is great research about the psychological benefits of focusing on our hopes for the future.
