"You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown"
June 9, 2018
by Kerry Hishon
On Monday, Oct. 28th (2020), over 40 LMS Drama Club students got together (virtually) to create theatrical makeup magic. Some of them created frightening or scary characters with wounds, others went for something more realistic or mystical. Overall, they had a great time and got to explore how theatrical makeup can help develop a character.
Harmony created a hand wound.
Maizie created a cute character with a face scar.
Liv led her group on how to make face and hand scars.
Nabu was looking rather old with his makeup leadership.
Some went for animal characters.
More animal characters.
Students were exploring the art of creating tableaux in theatre as the prepared to develop their own original "Postcards of My Life" skits.
These 7/8th grade drama students are not just playing in the sink, they are creating original sound effects to go with their sound stories for our "Old Fashioned Radio Unit."
Fall Advanced Drama is focused on acting and performing skills. The class will produce a class play (performed outside of class) and this year it will be "The Actor Games."
If your child is not cast in one of our shows, please remember the following. Auditions do not always seem fair. With many students auditioning for a limited number of roles, the decisions of the Director are always very difficult.
There are many ways one can react to disappointment:
1. Give up and never try again.
2. Choose to work on your acting, singing, dancing skills so that next time you audition you will be even better prepared.
3. Realize that you don't have a driving desire to be on stage and decide to put your talents and energy into other activities.
4. Get involved in some other way (i.e. behind the scenes, work backstage, etc.)
Parents, how one reacts to disappointment is a tremendous test of character. Children will look to you as an example of how to react. Compliment them for their efforts and for taking a risk by auditioning for the show.
