PSAT/SAT

in MSBSD

MSBSD 8th - 12th Grade Students & Families,

This year, the Mat-Su Borough School District is pleased to provide the PSAT and SAT to our 8th - 12th grade students.

PSAT 8/9 for 8th and 9th Graders

The PSAT 8/9 gives you, your student, and their teachers valuable information about your child’s academic strengths and weaknesses while there’s still plenty of time for them to improve their skills.  Maybe your child excels in math but struggles with reading. Maybe they’re great at grammar but frustrated with fractions. Once your child takes the PSAT 8/9, their score report will pinpoint exactly what they need to work on to graduate from high school and be ready for college.  The PSAT 8/9 score report also includes a section called AP Potential, which lets your child know which Advanced Placement® (AP) courses they might be ready to take. PSAT/NMSQT for 10th and 11th Graders

The PSAT/NMSQT is the qualifying test students take to enter the National Merit Scholarship Program and to compete for recognition and college scholarships. Learn more about the PSAT/NMSQT here: https://satsuite.collegeboard.org/psat-nmsqt

SAT School Day for 12th Graders

The SAT is a globally recognized college admission test that is widely accepted by U.S. colleges. Offering the SAT through SAT School Day supports equity and access. When students have the opportunity to test at their own school on a weekday, they're more likely to take the test. Learn more about SAT School Day here: https://satsuite.collegeboard.org/sat/sat-school-day

Your student's information and scores are not shared with any colleges or outside agencies.  The information is only shared with the student, the school, and the school district.

If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to the Counselor or PSAT Coordinator at your child's school.

Preparing for the PSAT 8/9 and PSAT/NMSQT

Khan Academy has partnered with College Board to create a free SAT Preparation Program.  Students are able to take a placement assessment in Khan Academy to allow the system to help them to customize a plan for success.  For more information on how this program can help your student, please view the information below.

You can access full-length PSAT/NMSQT practice tests at: https://satsuite.collegeboard.org/psat-nmsqt/preparing/practice-tests

PSAT 8/9 and PSAT/NMSQT after the test

Once you have finished taking the PSAT and scores have been published, you will receive a score report similar to the sample one below.  Your college board account can be linked to a Khan Academy account to help tailor lessons for improvement between now and taking the PSAT 8/9 or PSAT/NMSQT next year.  Below, you will find information on how to link your account and how your math score translates to math content that you may want to look at.  Once you have connected your College Board account with your Khan Academy account, your scores will automatically upload to Khan Academy and they will be used to customize a training plan for you.
