With a rich history dating back to 1951, the Mechanical Electrical Technology (MET) Department at Sacramento City College has been a trusted pillar in training the Sacramento community as Stationary Engineers and HVAC/R Service Technicians. Committed to meeting current and future workforce needs, the department upholds the highest educational standards in Air Conditioning, Heating, Ventilation, Refrigeration, Environmental Control, Building Automation, Renewable and Sustainable Energy, and Energy Efficiency and Management.
In recent years, the MET Department has expanded to include the Industrial Maintenance Mechanic Technology (IMMT) program, offering practical, entry-level instruction in repairing and maintaining diverse machinery in sectors like food processing, advanced manufacturing, and product distribution. The program encompasses a range of foundational skills, including safety training with OSHA-10 certification, mechanical and electrical system fundamentals, maintenance and repair of industrial equipment, as well as programming for industrial process control and robotics. These skills are imparted through theoretical instruction and hands-on training in state-of-the-art laboratories, ensuring our students are well-prepared for the industry.
The department's growth continues by integrating our campus’s existing Electronics Technology program. This program delves into telecommunications, electronics facilities maintenance, automated systems, microcomputers, and more, providing a comprehensive understanding of electronic systems and applications. Additionally, the inclusion of Computer Numerical Control (CNC) technology aligns with our commitment to advanced manufacturing education, offering students expertise in precision machining and manufacturing processes.
By embracing these new disciplines, the MET Department not only enhances its portfolio but also paves the way for the future of technical education. We prepare students for a broad spectrum of career paths in the mechanical, electrical, and electronic fields, reinforcing our dedication to innovation and excellence in technical education.
