Birch Grove Media Center -
We are open during school hours for students and staff to check out books, use computers, research and more. Classrooms have a check out time scheduled once every six school days; however, students are encouraged to stop by the library to get new books at any time, with teacher permission.
Students in grades 2-5 check out two books at a time, with Pre-K, Kindergartners and 1st Graders checking out one at a time. When students are researching, they can check out two additional books, a total of four. We encourage students to always have one "good fit" book, a good reading book at his/her own reading level. Books are checked out for two weeks at a time and can be renewed if the child brings the book they want to renew into the library.
Students are expected to be responsible for their library books, returning the books on time and keeping them safe from harm - writing, liquids, pets etc. Students who have an overdue book will not be able to use that checkout slot until it is returned or renewed. If they are allowed to check out two books, and return only one, then they are able to check out only one during the next checkout time. Damaged or lost books need to be paid for before checking out new books. Overdue notices are sent via email and by written notice to students.
