Social Worker & Family Network

The School Social Worker provides proactive educational support, as well as individual and group supportive services, to help students overcome barriers to learning. The School Social Worker works directly with individual students, small groups of students and in the classroom settings to:

  • enhance social and emotional skills
  • teach problem solving skills
  • help children cope with family changes and loss
  • teach anger management coping strategies
  • present harassment and bully curriculum
  • help students respect themselves and others

The overall goal is to work directly with students and their families, teachers, and other support staff to provide the guidance, support and nurturance so essential to academic success. The School Social Worker also consults and advocates for families regarding parenting strategies, connects families with community resources and assists in times of crisis

Westview Family Network :

The Family Network is unique to Westview Elementary and provides support

and opportunities that enable children for success.

When a child's basic needs are met:

  • they are better able to stay on task
  • they have stronger self-esteem
  • they are more successful students, classmates and friends.

Today, almost 2 in 4 Westview families struggle to meet their basic needs. Many families are just one unexpected expense or lost job away form the same struggle.
