The Q is Silqent team members are graduating, but Q Cares will continue!
The team wanted to leave a legacy as they all graduate. Part of the legacy involves a scholarship fund they’ve created to help the Q Cares kindergartners and first graders to go to college and realize their engineering dreams. The Q Boys have been consulting the Eagan and Eastview Foundations, financial planners, and bankers to plan their course of action for the next 12 years. Donate to the Q Cares Scholarship here.
The other part of the Q Cares legacy is that the program will continue next year with another Eagan High School robotics team they’ve been training. We are excited that future Oak Ridge students will benefit from this great program!
The Q is Silqent (pronounced “Silent”) is an Eagan High School Robotics team consisting of eight 12th graders: Will Barber, Collin Timmons, Nick Moe, Trevor Burgoyne, Steven Wagner, Connor Wendolek, Jackson Lee, and Tom Clark. Two years ago, Q began working with kindergartners at Oak Ridge Elementary School in Eagan. Q visits Oak Ridge twice a month to bring kindergartners and first graders hands-on activities designed to help them learn basic engineering principles, programming, and robotics. Kindergartners and first graders work directly with The Q in small groups. The best part of this outreach has been the strong relationships formed between the Q and kindergartners and first graders. Both the big kids and the little kids look forward to seeing each other. It’s hard to wait, though. The kindergartners often “count sleeps” until The Q will be coming back.
"My son came home last night and refused to take off his Robot Scientist t-shirt. He insisted on wearing it all night and then to bed. He also wouldn’t take off the safety goggles and was looking around the house for things to investigate like a scientist."
