Macy McMillan and the Rainbow Goddess by Shari Green
This book won the Schneider Family Award in 2018. This is an award given to a book that shows readers something about a person with a disability. In this case, Macy is deaf. What she is dealing with right now though is that her mother is getting married. Macy has to help her neighbor, Iris, who is moving to a nursing home soon. Iris needs help going through her bookshelves.
I was delightfully surprised that this is a novel told in verse. (That means it is in the form of poems.) I really loved this book. It's a sweet story about many different kinds of relationships.
Really good realistic fiction for 3rd-5th graders. I would give it 4 stars out of 5. Spring 2019
