Magnet Program

Wonder, explore, create and lead

What is a School of Leadership, Engineering and Technology?

Echo Park Elementary School of Leadership, Engineering and Technology provides a rich and engaging environment that empowers and equips every student to wonder, explore, create and lead in our community. At Echo Park, students experience rigorous and relevant hands-on STEM opportunities that enhance problem-solving, critical and creative thinking skills and their ability to work effectively with others. The magnet theme inspires students to understand how the world works, see the rewards and challenges of STEM work and and purpose, passion and voice to make a difference in the world.

Leadership

Students learn to better lead their own lives (independence), to work effectively with others (interdependence), and to make meaningful contributions at school, at home and in society.

Technology

Integrating technology into classroom instruction happens across the curriculum. Technology is used to deepen and enhance learning through students’ active engagement. Students use technology and digital media to gather, evaluate and use information, to communicate and work collaboratively, and to connect to real-world experts.

At the core…

All District 196 elementary schools offer the same rigorous core curriculum in reading, writing, math, science and social studies. At Echo Park, these important areas are an essential part of each student’s day.

District 196 magnet schools offer families increased choice while helping the district achieve state-required integrations goals. Magnet schools can draw students from all parts of the district and are part of the effort to provide racial balance in our schools. All students throughout the district are eligible to apply. Non-district residents may also apply, though preference is given to students residing in District 196.

Transportation is provided for students residing in District 196 who live more than one-half mile from their magnet school. You are allowed one A.M. and one P.M. address for pick up and drop off.
