Hello! I am Mariah Meyers and I am the Band Teacher at Echo Park Elementary. 5th Grade band is an incredible opportunity for students at Echo Park to build brain cells, make new friends, and experience the power of music and synergy.

A little about me

I was born and raised in Sioux City, Iowa and attended St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN, where I earned a degree in Music Education. I love to cook, socialize and swim, and I am always laughing. My band journey began in 5th Grade when I decided to play the flute. Since then, my life has been filled with band and various musical ensembles, including Choirs, Jazz Bands and Orchestras. My involvement in music has brought me my closet friends, fondest memories and greatest challenges. I am excited to share similar experiences with your child.

How to read music

Here is a quick and informative lesson about reading music! Band members, watch this to add valuable input to your knowledge bank.

Fifth Grade Instrumental Music

The 5th Grade Instrumental Music Program is a year-long performance course. The band curriculum provides large group (morning band) and small group (lesson) instruction. Students perform three concerts during the school year. Large group band rehearsals are held every Tuesday afternoons from 3:50-4:50. Small lessons are given on Monday's and Thursday's. Schedules for these lessons are posted in all 5th grade classrooms.

Concerts:

  1. Tuesday, December 13th 6:30pm, Echo Park gym
  2. Monday, January 16th, Panorama of Bands @ AVHS, 7:00pm
  3. Tuesday, April 18th, 6:30pm, Echo Park gym

Play an instrument

All fifth grade students are encouraged to consider playing an instrument. This process begins with fourth grade spring registration and continues with lessons during the summer before fifth grade. Fifth grade band members perform at three band concerts a year. Two concerts are performed at school for Echo Park Students. The third concert is Panorama of Bands where members of other elementary bands come together to perform.
