David Scalise is currently in his fifth year of teaching at Apple Valley High School, and his 11th year as a music educator. At AVHS, Mr. Scalise’s duties include directing the Symphonic Band and running the Jazz Ensemble program, as well as team teaching the Concert Band and Marching Band. He is also the director of “Broadway”, a multi-faceted musical production involving the AVHS vocal, instrumental, and dance departments. Mr. Scalise teaches individual lessons for low brass, double reeds, flute, and saxophone. Prior to teaching at AVHS, Mr. Scalise taught at Cannon Falls High School in Cannon Falls, MN and Coventry High School in Akron, OH. He holds a Bachelor of Music in Music Education from St. Olaf College and a Master of Arts in Music Education from Case Western Reserve University. He is a member of the Minnesota Music Educators Association and the Minnesota Band Directors Association.
Bill Blatzheim is in his sixth year as the Arts & Activities Director at AVHS and his twelfth year at AVHS overall. Prior to becoming Arts & Activities Director, he served as one of two vocal music teachers at AVHS and continues to work with vocalists in the R&B Band as well as directing a co-curricular vocal jazz group. He is a former member of the Phil Mattson Singers and sings and plays keyboard in Fred Savage and the Unbeatables, a Twin Cities-based wedding and party band. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Vocal and Classroom Music from St. John’s University as well as degrees in Educational Leadership from Minnesota State University, Mankato and the University of St. Thomas.
