There’s a lot of news circulating about autonomous vehicles. This disruptive technology will require a paradigm shift as the world moves toward contemporary ride sharing scenarios and the introduction of autonomous vehicle technology—the 24/7-vehicle usage profile.
Come join us as we learn about the supply chain impact and considerations for this paradigm shift associated with autonomous vehicles (i.e. self driving vehicles)!
Current vehicle usage cycles are very low, 5% or less. However, within the context of a fully mature autonomous vehicle environment involving structured car sharing, the daily usage rate could grow to 95% or more. Such a dramatic increase in utilization will have an impact on the vehicle system life, the supply chain to support it, and is assumed will have a significant degradation effect. This presentation will explore this hypothesis.
While full adoption may take decades, driverless cars are inevitable. Companies that look far ahead, plan and execute the fastest will survive. Those companies sticking to tradition risk stalling, or disappearing altogether.
James (Jim) Wasiloff is the Armored Multi-Purpose Vehicle Reliability Leader at BAE Systems. In this role, he leads the AMPV Reliability Engineering program effort and serves as a BAE Systems consultant on Lean Six Sigma, Design for Six Sigma, and Autonomous Vehicle Technology.
Jim has a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Oakland University, a Master of Science degree in Industrial and Systems Engineering from The University of Michigan, and is currently enrolled in a Doctorate in Engineering program in Manufacturing (Reliability and Robust Engineering) at The University of Michigan. He has studied Artificial Intelligence and Autonomous Vehicles at Stanford University under Sebastian Thrun. A certified Six Sigma Master Black Belt, Jim has specialized in the implementation of Design for Six Sigma and related preemptive problem avoidance methodologies.

Join us for a hands-on Supply Chain event – a fun, high energy evening learning to bridge theory and practice!
APICS Greater Detroit is pleased to announce a supply chain learning experience that integrates theory in a practical way. This cross-functional business simulation workshop is a hands-on opportunity. Participants will be part of a simulated management team in one of the four following roles:
- VP Purchasing: Responsible for selecting the right suppliers and agreeing SLAs with suppliers, including possible collaboration options.
- VP Operations: Must decide on capacity in warehouses and production areas and approve investment in bottling lines and mixers. Can introduce various improvement projects. Has the ability to outsource outbound warehousing.
- VP Supply Chain: Manages inventories (safety stock and lot size settings), production intervals, and the frozen period of production.
- VP Sales: Agrees SLAs with customers, manages the product and customer portfolio, forecasts demand and can introduce collaboration concepts.
The Goal: deliver optimal performance using supply chain best practices from theory and real life. Or, in other words, win prizes through creating the best-simulated supply chain! (And YES, there will be metrics!!!)
Just like real world, every decision a participant makes has trade-offs, both within and across roles, so participants will only succeed if they align all the disciplines. As the simulation evolves it becomes clear that a supply chain strategy is essential for success – and that the strategy must be implemented and deployed to functional levels and below to be effective. Winning is about generating the best ROI for the business while still managing your own team’s Key Performance Indicators and targets.
This event is designed for any professional who works as part of cross-functional teams along the value chain. This can include:
- General managers, Operations managers, Production managers, Supply chain managers, Logistics managers, Warehouse managers, Sales / Marketing managers, Financial managers, Procurement managers / buyers, Planners / forecasters
About our Presenter: James C. Williams
James is an exceptional Leader and understands what it takes to drive value within the Global Supply Chain.
Vice President Client Solutions for DSV, with responsibilities consisting of designing and implementing global Supply Chain Management solution for strategic clients within the Automotive Vertical.
Prior to joining DSV James served as the Vice President of Supply Chain Solutions for Walker Logistics where he transformed a small minority Logistics company into a mid-tier supply chain solutions provider.
James earned a Master of Science in International Logistics at The Georgia Institute of Technology, a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Phoenix in 2001, and a Bachelor of Business Administration and Logistics from Central Michigan University in 1991.

About the Speaker
Ed Hisscock is Vice President of Strategic Sourcing and Transformation Officer for Non-Labor Spend at Trinity Health, a leading catholic healthcare ministry. Ed has returned to Trinity Health to lead the enterprise sourcing and contracting efforts and the supply chain transformation.
Prior to rejoining Trinity Health, Ed co-founded Optimé Supply Chain, a software solutions provider, and founded Appleseed Healthcare Resources, a supply chain consultancy. As an entrepreneur, he co-developed multiple supply chain optimization technologies and personally served over 100 healthcare provider organizations in the US and Europe.
Before his entrepreneurial journey, Ed served the provider sector at Mercy Health Services, later Trinity Health where he held several key supply chain positions in both the corporate and hospital settings. At the corporate office he was responsible for leading the development and implementation of an enterprise supply chain Information Technology (IT) and content management strategy and directed the sourcing and procurement of the organizations IT spend. In his role at the hospital, he designed and implemented a shared services cooperative and led the development of a contract and supply data warehouse.
Ed began his career in healthcare with American Scientific Products, later Baxter Healthcare. In his work at Baxter, Ed piloted a new services venture in contract materials management and consultation, led a regional distribution center and a regional technical services team and facilitated many change management, product management and educational events.
Ed holds an Electronics Engineering degree in from the Ohio Institute of Technology, a Bachelor’s degree in Behavioral Science from National Lewis University and a Master’s degree in Supply Chain from Michigan State University.

Materials Requirements Planning (MRP) is a vital component in the supply chain. It acts as the bridge between master planning and production in a system. MRP helps to determine requirements and keep priorities. The APICS Principles and Practices of MRP seminar assists beginning and experienced planners using a MRP system.
