As the end of the Grade 12 students' high school years approaches, APEC Schools launched the “Master Class”, an exclusive online session for Grade 12 Students discussing various topics focused on different fields usable for future college life and professional careers.
The morning session from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. included Master Class for Innovations in Business, Building a Career/Business (BES), and Innovations for Science. Master Class for College Survival Tips and Presentation/Defense Tips ran from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. in the afternoon session.
Sir Greg Villasanta presented the Master Class for Innovation in Business, with Ms. Lin Batiancila as the event's guest speaker. Ms. Batiancila addressed the topic by displaying data on how quickly technology is being used by the entire world, and then officially began by describing what innovation is.
By using examples such as the advancements in the present transportation system — from traditional commuting to reserving your Grab Car or Angkas Ride, she characterized innovation as a basic advancement that contributes to society.
She then went on to explain why innovation is vital and why it is critical in business. According to her, the reasons why innovation is important in business are that it allows for adaptability, stimulates growth, and differentiates organizations from their competitors.
Moving on, the Master Class: Building a Career/Business (BES) was hosted by Ms. Rizza Mae Campo with Ms. Marden Ann De Guzman as the guest speaker. Since most of the students who signed up for this topic were from ABM Strand, they are quite familiar with the concepts in the discussion and Ms. De Guzman did not add too much, however, she still shared some thoughts based on her personal experience as a business owner. She started by finding a business idea, then properly building a business plan. She reminded the students how important it is to build a business plan that is both attainable and realistic. She also gave tips on how to properly fund your business, especially as a starter. Her discussion concluded with a recap of takeaways and a Q&A with the students.
Sir Gerald Pineda, on the other hand, hosted the Master Class: Innovations in Science, with Sir Phronesis Joy Cabrera as the guest speaker. The idea was introduced by asking some pupils what their "hilig" are and then relating it to various scientific achievements. He then emphasized the significance of scientific advances, which he subsequently applied to certain real-life events.
He emphasized five points: To make our lives easy, To lengthen our longevity, To earn money, To establish dominance, and To quench our curiosity.
Master Class: College Survival Tips
Master Class: Presentation/Defense Preparations
At 1:00 p.m., the Master Class for College Survival Tips and Presentation/Defense Preparations kicked off the afternoon session. Ms. Kristine Bolado hosted the Master Class: College Survival Tips, which featured two surprise guests, Ms. Roca Kimberly and Ms. Angel Dianne Nieves. Their lecture, "How to Study Smarter, Not Harder: Tips and Tricks for a Better College Life," highlighted the key distinctions and comparisons between high school and college living. They used real-life examples from their own college experiences to make the presentation more relatable to incoming college students. They also emphasized the significance of communication, connections, technology, resourcefulness, attentiveness, and time management in college. After the comparison, they gave their personal tips to the audience, then opened up the question and answer part. The Master Class: Presentation/Defense Preparations, hosted by Sir Leo Angelo Doctor and featuring Sir Gerald Martos as a guest speaker, focuses on the research or thesis concept. Sir Gerald highlighted what specifics are required to be included in each section of the research using his experiences that he was able to share with the audience. Following the talk, members of the audience inquired about the referencing part, specifically the differences between APA and MLA formatting.
All queries for all the Master Class Sessions in both morning and afternoon schedules were raised and answered by the respective guest speakers for each session. After the questions and answer portion were done, the hosts presented the certificate of appreciation to the guest speakers and concluded the sessions with the credentials. All Master Class Sessions were successfully completed, officially ending even before 3:00 in the afternoon.
Goodluck to all our ates and kuyas in Grade 12 who will be taking a new step and a new journey into their lives! Goodluck to your college life and soon to your future careers!
