APEC Schools Ortigas Extension has been given the opportunity to allow its students to participate in the Hour of Code, which is a program developed by Accenture in partnership with Code.org. According to the official website itself, “The Hour of Code is a one-hour introduction to computer science, using fun tutorials to show that anybody can learn the basics. This grassroots campaign is supported by over 400 partners and 200,000 educators worldwide.”
We interviewed some of the Grade 7 students who were able to participate in the Hour of Code before any of the other sections. They had the following to say:
“The facilitators [from Accenture] guided us throughout the activities. I liked how they handled and facilitated the whole program. We learned communication, participation, and collaboration. It felt great.”
— Aisha Aguilar
“They asked us to write code that would make the characters on the screen dance and display effects. I was a bit confused, but I enjoyed it a lot. I learned a lot of things about coding and what I should input and create.”
