On the 23rd of March 2023, my family (including extended family) and I flew to my mother’s home province of Ilo-ilo for the first time in a long time. The last time we visited was in late 2012, meaning ten years have passed since. As it’s been so long, my mother made sure to make the most of our time there.
We arrived at our hotel in Ilo-ilo at around 11:30 PM. We walked to the nearby Jollibee and ate dinner there. Shortly after we finished eating, we walked back to the hotel, called it a day, and slept. On the morning of March 24, we decided to tour around the nearby SM City Iloilo. The place was very big. While it was not as big as the Mall of Asia, it’s comparable to the size of SM Megamall. While we were there, we ate lunch and bought groceries. As the days were already scorching hot during this time of the year, it was especially refreshing swimming in the pool.
At 12:30 PM the same day, we checked out of the hotel and traveled to my maternal grandmother’s home in Sara, Ilo-ilo. There, my mother was able to reunite with her parents, relatives, and friends since the last time we visited a little over ten years ago. She was absolutely delighted. In the following days, we went to several resorts and also went island hopping. On the 27th, we spent the whole afternoon at Gigantes Island, swimming and enjoying the water. On the 28th, we went to the SandBar Island Resort. We were to stay there for two days and one night. On the same day, we went island hopping, visiting the other nearby islands, and taking an abundance of pictures. As 5:00 PM struck, we returned to the resort.
Our time in Ilo-ilo came to an end on the 30th. Before we left, we made sure to say goodbyes to all of my mother’s parents, relatives, and friends. We boarded the plane back at 9:00 PM, and at around 10:00 PM that day, our flight landed in Manila. We only spent nine days there, but each of those nine days turned out to be extremely memorabl
