EXPERIENCE 1

Answer the following question:

1. What is altruism, and how does it differ from other forms of helping behavior?

a. How does altruism benefit both the giver and the receiver?

b. What is the difference between a Sacrificial Giver and a Strategic Giver?

c. What are the steps in becoming a Strategic Giver?

1.  Altruistic behaviour follows the principle of not expecting something in return (e.g. ) as where a lot of helping practices typically involve anticipate some reciprocation.

a. For the giver, it can be morally uplifting to help someone just because, and it drives you to do more when you feel that way. This can also create a stronger relationship with this person or community.

The receiver gains the emotional or physical support they need without having a cost for it. They could also feel inspired to do the same.

b.) I believe the main difference between the two is that sacrificial knows no limits in giving whilst strategic givers have a boundary on when to give.

c.) Create a curb on giving and understand that you also have boundaries and should prioritise them as much as prioritising the people you help. Without these, it leads to burnout and could result in the opposite of what someone would typically feel when giving. Treat yourself how you treat others; with respect and care.

1.

We don't exactly have a local community as we live in an apartment complex, but I could think of one thing it may be concerning safety. I've heard a bit of stories where cars crash nearby, kidnappings, or something similar.

2.

Without proper authority it's difficult to prevent such things from happening. The best one can do to help this situation is to use social media to raise awareness regarding these issues

3.

a.

Create a Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter account or use my existing ones to raise awareness about kidnappings and car crashes.

b.

Be an example and follow safety protocols for driving.

c.

Push for better design to prevent future accidents from happening.

d.

Suggest for more guards to roam the proximity to prevent kidnappings.

e.

Promote the idea of having more security cameras around.

4.

Government and civilians alike should participate in keeping each other safe.

5.

It protects everyone inside the community and prevents anyone grieving lost family members.

EXPERIENCE 2

Perform the following tasks:

1. Think of an urgent need/issue in your local community.

2. If you were part of a school organization, what project can you propose to serve your local community? What would be its goals?

3. List five steps on how you will implement this project.

4. Who do you think should be involved in this project apart from your organization? What will be their roles?

5. How do you think this project will benefit the community?

Answer the following question:

1. State at least three of the five principles in teaching Math in a sentence.

1.

The best way to learn mathematics is to play around with it.

2.

Teachers and parents are not the answer key, they're just there to guide you.

3.

Starting with a question gets one's head-gears going and creates intrigue and becomes more engaging to a student.

Answer the following question:

1. Order the seven strategies – in your opinion – according to their importance and effectiveness starting from most important and effective to least.

1. Make it hands-on.

Hands-on experiences hit different since you can ask questions and get help in real time.

2. Find opportunities to differentiate learning.

I believe giving students their own pace to learn is a good strategy as long as their being monitored.

3.  Incorporate storytelling to make connections to real-world scenarios.

I've noticed a lot of people tend to participate the more their interests and hobbies are mentioned in lessons which is understandable since it's something they like and they'd love to talk about it more, and this creates an engaging conversation in the classroom.

4.  Use visuals and images.

I personally struggle focusing solely on people's words and usually get lost and none of their words register in my head 2 seconds after they speak, so watching something while they talk helps me a lot when it comes to studying.

5. Let your students regularly know how they're doing.

I believe this is a good way to grow as well since one will be able to differentiate on what they're struggling with and what they'll be able to improve on. Reflecting is always an important thing in growth.

6.  Show and tell new concepts.

I believe introducing new concepts are a good thing since it's refreshing, but doing it all the time can do the opposite, so personally, I'd say this is very down on the list since this might be done excessively—and instead of being engaged, one will be more confused and might struggle more since they haven't had time to let old concepts fully sink in.

7.  Ask students to explain their ideas.

I'm not good with words and get self-conscious of what I say more than the contents of what I'm saying, so it's difficult for me to verbally explain how I got that result. But, I do still find it useful in general.

a. Write 3 takeaways you learned from this lesson.

b. Write 2 sentences explaining reasons why we need to serve others selflessly.

c. Write 1 part of this EG where you have experienced Malasakit (effective concern for others) and Katapatan (dedication to service). Explain.

a.

First, I learnt to have boundaries even in giving;

second, learning math doesn't always require a rulebook and sometimes it's exploring on the possibilities of what-ifs;

third, I learnt a little more about myself as I got to reflect on what might work for me with different methodologies in teaching.

b.

Being selfless can inspire others to do the same and something greater comes in return of such behaviour like new connections. It also can just morally boost yourself that it inspires you to do more.

c.

I believe it's experience 2 as I had to actively think of what I could do to help others from danger and whatnot.
