RECOGNITION FOR ACCOMPLISHMENT

Students: Achievements or contributions associated with a student's enrollment in the district will be recognized. Winners of local, state or national competitions will also be recognized. The categories of student recognition are the following:

Confined to those achievements or contributions derived directly from course(s) of study.

Curricular: Confined to those achievements or contributions derived directly from course(s).

Extracurricular: Confined to achievements derived from school-sponsored activities or service to the community.

Staff: Achievements or contributions associated with their employment in the district or community service.


Community/Other: Achievements or contributions to benefit students and/or our schools.

Recognition by the Southport School Committee will be through a nomination process. Nominations for staff, student or other recognition will be approved by the superintendent and Committee chair prior to placement on the agenda.

The School Committee may use several methods of recognition including, but not limited to, commendation certificates, plaques, or other appropriate forms of recognition.

Persons or organizations to receive recognition will be invited to attend the School Committee meeting at which they will be recognized as follows:

A. Students: The building administrator will invite the student(s) and their parent(s)/guardian(s) to the meeting. A written invitation will be issued by the School Committee and mailed to the student's home.

B. Staff: Building administrators or immediate supervisors will notify the staff member(s) selected for recognition. A written invitation will be issued by the School Committee and mailed to the staff member's home.

C. Community/Other: A written invitation signed by the School Committee chair and superintendent outlining the accomplishment or contribution will be mailed to their home.

At the beginning of the School Committee meeting at which the recognition is being made, the person submitting the nomination and/or another appropriate person will give a brief description of why the recognition is being made. The School Committee chair will present the recognition and the presentation will be recorded in the minutes of the meeting.
