INTERSCHOLASTIC SPORTS

It is the Community School District's policy to provide high school and limited junior high school interscholastic athletic competition in a variety of sports. Students shall be allowed to participate in sports on the basis of their physical condition , desire, safety and ability to perform.

The athletic program should encourage participation by as many boys and girls as possible and should be carried on with the best interests of the participants as the first consideration. This should be done without interference with other obligations in the school and community.

A well-organized and well-conducted athletic program is a major factor in the morale of a student body and an important phase of good community-school relations. To win is the goal of competitive athletics, but this is not to be regarded as a reason for violating the rules of sportsmanship and fair play.

A. Participation in interscholastic athletics is limited to students in grades 6-12 who are students in our school system or a home-schooled student in our CSD. An exception may be made by the building principal for a student from another school who wishes to participate in a non-cut sport, such as track, or for entering into inter-school agreements which create co operative teams.

B. The athletic program is an integral part of the curriculum and is under the authority of the principal.

C. To be eligible for interscholastic athletics, a student must:

1. Have passed at least three (3) full-credit courses the previous quarter;

2. Be less than 20 years old; and

3. Have originally enrolled in the ninth grade no more than four years ago.

D. No student may start practice for any interscholastic athletic team unless he/she fulfills the physical examination requirement per policy JLCA. Students who transfer into our school will be required to complete a physical examination prior to participation in interscholastic sports

E. Coaches of each sport will submit their budget needs to the athletic director for the next school year, and the latter will present the total athletic budget request to the principal for approval and inclusion in the general budget. No expenditures for athletic purposes may be made in excess of those listed in the budget without approval of the superintendent.
