ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE (ESL) PROGRAM

The BOOTHBAY-BOOTHBAY HARBOR COMMUNITY SCHOOL DISTRICT will provide ESL instruction for all students of limited English proficiency who qualify according to established guidelines and as judged by the Language Assessment Committee to assure these students equal educational opportunities.

The Superintendent will have the responsibility to oversee this program which should include procedures for identification, assessment, monitoring and follow­ up. A Language Assessment Committee shall have the primary responsibility for identification of students with limited English proficiency, and will coordinate and oversee the educational program for these students. The Language Assessment Committee shall further communicate with the student's parents/guardians regarding progress made, and recommend release from the ESL program when the student has reached a proficiency level enabling them to successfully transition into a regular program of students.

Procedures for identification, guidelines for instruction and assessment, and follow-up procedures shall be maintained by the Language Assessment Committee, and reviewed by them on a regular basis.
