Third Grade with Mrs. Peters
January 5, 2017
Monday was a holiday, Tuesday morning we had a Minute-to-Win-it whole-school assembly from 8:30-10:30, Thursday was no school due to a snow day, and Friday was a 2 hour late-start due to Thursday's blizzard, so we had a very broken up week (with many classmates absent on Friday).
Friday we worked with our science buddies from 6th grade to test our catapults (results posted on photo section of Home page) and Cub Chorus members began their next session.
The focus in Unit 2 of Bridges for third grade is fractions and continued work on multiplication. Students are doing incredible work with fractions at Number Corner. We are soon moving on to Unit 3 (addition and subtraction of double digit numbers, which we have been working on almost every morning, during morning work, so are all very skilled at this already).
The focus is on folktales and informational text.
In writing, the focus is the students' ability to write narratives with introductions and conclusions, their use of grammar and spelling, their writing stamina, and their use of technology in the publishing of their writing. Students are also learning about Elements of a Folktale and writing their own.
In Social Studies and Science students are studying Weather.
Soon we will be beginning a unit focusing on the work of author Mary Cerillo and creating writing for a classroom book that will be published later in the year.
