(Heavy Machine will support our Aloha ʻĀina efforts)
This machine operation program is a selective program meant to lay the groundwork in preparing students for careers as Heavy Machine Operators. Our instructor who works in the industry has gotten feedback from hiring professionals. These professionals emphasize that that an important trait of an operator besides skill on the machines is professionalism which includes being prepared in mind (having a good attitude) and a clean body (keeping away from unhealthy substances) since being alert and operating safely is a main concern.
Students will be expected to dress appropriately and be "job-ready" when each class starts. This may include (but will not be limited to) coming dressed for work: work shirt (as directed by the kumu), long pants, covered shoes, a safety vest, and a hardhat. Having a water bottle on hand may also be a requirement.
Please note that for safety reasons, there is a limit to the number of students who can enroll in this class. Students may be asked to write or explain to a school panel why feel they are ready to accept the challenge of being in this program. The school may also monitor grades, especially in classes that are required for graduation. Students who come to class unprepared or do not follow the instructions and protocol outlined by the kumu may be asked to transfer to another class so that the next prepared student on the waitlist can be enrolled.
