Weekly Preschool Newsletter

June 3-5, 2019

Dear parents,

We have come to our last week of our investigation. We focused on “How can we create less trash?” And asked questions such as, “What do we do with clothes that don’t fit or we don’t use anymore?” “Where does the food we don’t like to eat go and where do we put it should we decide not to eat it.” The children had amazing answers. As you know, our focus was to help our students be mindful about how much trash we can do without, and be cognizant that we can find many uses of things if we are mindful that lots of objects can be reused, reduced and recycled.

Next week is our Celebration of our Study week and will finally disclose all the wonderful things children did with the recycled materials we collected. Also, It’s our Mother’s Day week and we are looking forward to celebrating moms, to close our unit. See you moms on Thursday!

On another note, if you are thinking of looking for creative and fun activities for your child during the summer, please consider our ANS Summer Programs. The school is offering Summer Programs from June 10th to July 5th. If interested, please take a look at our ANS Summer Camp programs by clicking on this Link. If you have questions or concerns, please let your child’s teacher know. Please be safe and enjoy your weekend!

SECOND STEP:

Dear family,

Next year, your child will be starting a higher grade level and new adventures. The Second Step skills your child has been learning all year will help him or her have a successful start next school year.

This year your child has learned and practiced Second Step skills in the following four areas:

1. Skills for Learning: Your child gained skills to help him or her become a better learner, including how to focus attention, listen carefully, and ask for help.

2. Empathy: Your child learned to identify and understand his or her own and others’ feelings. Your child also learned how to show care for others.

3. Emotion Management: Your child learned how to calm down when having strong feelings, such as worry or anger.

4. Friendship Skills and Problem Solving: Your child learned how to make and keep friends and to solve problems with others in a positive way.

You’ve also been doing Home Link activities with your child. I hope you’ve had fun doing them together. Now you can use the complete set of Home Links to review all the skills your child has learned. Do a few each week over the summer break to remind your child of what he or she has learned. Help your child think about how these skills will help him or her be a better learner and get along with others next year.

P.S. Make sure to join www.secondstep.org with the activation key SSPE FAMI LY68 to get information about what your child learned in the Second Step program!
