Patience Stevens, PhD Student
I graduated from MIT in 2016 with a BS in Brain and Cognitive Sciences, and then worked for a year as a research assistant at the University of St. Andrews before starting in CMU’s Psychology PhD program in August 2017. I’m co-advised by Professors Anna Fisher and David Plaut.
I’m interested in the processes underlying listening and reading comprehension, particularly those involving inferences that depend on prior knowledge. What is the best way to organize and store knowledge so that you can access it when making inferences regarding incoming language? How do these abilities develop over time, and what kinds of learning experiences most contribute to the development of comprehension? I approach these questions from a developmental and computational perspective.
In my free time I like reading fantasy novels, camping and tap dancing.
