This school year, eighth-grade science centers on the fields of chemistry and physics. Students will explore the building blocks of all matter, how we know reactions have occurred, and energy all around us.
Alongside mastering core scientific concepts, our classroom will emphasize three key shifts in how students learn and think:
Embracing Ambiguity: Learning that science is an ongoing process of inquiry where a single "right answer" isn't always immediately available.
Fostering Critical Thinking: Moving from passive learning to active investigation by designing experiments, collaborating with peers, and formulating driving questions.
Building Resilience: Encouraging students to push through challenging concepts independently. Rather than providing immediate answers, I will frequently guide them with questions like "What do you think?" to help them trust their own reasoning.
