ENGAGEMENT & ENJOYMENT | Exciting Events
In addition to the multiple learning opportunities that students have when traveling to off-campus locations, Grade 6 is full of fun and engaging events that bring students and staff together in the spirit of learning and joy.
In early spring, Chariot of the Sun, performed by Jeff Benoit, travels to Amesbury to put on a one-man show of a variety of ancient Greek plays. Mr. Benoit—voted Connecticut's 2015 Performing Artist of the Year—uses a combination of poetry, masks, mime and audience participants to bring these classic tales to life. Included is the myth of Phaethon and his chariot, Pandora and her mysterious box, and the thrilling tale of Odysseus and Cyclops. It's a dynamic presentation that offers an accessible and fun introduction to the stories of ancient Greece!
Later in the year, students take part in our annual Greek Day Celebration. During the celebration, students will participate in the following activities: student performances of classic Greek plays, such as Orpheus and Eurydice and Atalanta, compete in a wide variety of Olympic events and finish the day by eating an assortment of traditional Greek foods.
Our newest addition is the E.A.S.T. Carnival. During this fun-filled day, students come together with their teachers to participate in multiple engaging activities. Possible events include: rock climbing, yoga, soccer, capture the flag, Pollock painting, tug of war, lawn games and a musical escape room. Students may even have the opportunity to dunk their teachers in a tank of water!
