Fall 2017

Spring 2017

The plants we chose were to directly cater to the client. Our client specifically stated that they wanted to avoid woodland species and buckthorn, attract some specific pollinators like bumblebees and butterflies, and plant butterfly milkweed and blazing-star.

The height of the plants we chose varied, so we decided to put the taller plants in the middle and the shorter around the outside. This way the garden could be viewed from any side.

Another major thing that we had to account for is the location of the site. Nearby there are many deer and rabbits, so we had to make sure that most of the plants would be deer resistant. From the soil test, we found that our soil was very sandy and loamy, so we decided to go with plants that didn’t need as much water because sand can’t hold moisture. Since our client’s area had lots of tall trees, we chose plants that didn’t need full sunlight.
