Doorknock in Washington DC
Annually a delegation of AmCham Qatar Board of Governors, led by Chairman Robert Hager, make their way to Washington D.C. These Doorknock missions are a forum for the American Chamber of Commerce in Qatar to discuss relevant issues regarding the business and investment climate in Qatar and identify and discuss the challenges facing the private sector. We join the Middle East Council of American Chambers of Commerce (MECACC) with members from Oman, Bahrain, Kuwait, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, and the U.A.E. to meet with key U.S. government officials and agencies.

This year a delegation from the American Chamber of Commerce in Qatar joined the Middle East Chamber of American Chambers of Commerce (MECACC) in Washington D.C. for an outstanding Doorknock event. MECACC is the umbrella organization for multiple American Chambers of Commerce (AmChams) in the region and these organizations collectively play a key role in promoting American commercial interests. MECACC members are ambassadors of the American economy, American culture and American values.
This year MECACC hosted a delegation of 15 AmCham members who traveled to the U.S. capital to lobby on behalf of the private sector and to promote Qatar, Kuwait, and Saudi Arabia as investment destinations and trade partners of the United States.
The American Chamber of Commerce in Qatar chapter had the largest representation. Our delegation was comprised of the following individuals:
- Robert Hager, AmCham Qatar Chairman and Partner, Squire Patton Boggs
- Jay Turk, AmCham Qatar Executive Board Member and Chief Executive Officer, Libra Trading Company
- Rehan Khan, AmCham Qatar Executive Board Member and Executive Program Director - FIFA World Cup, Ch2M Hill
- Tarek Saad, AmCham Qatar Chairman Circle Member and Of Council, Squire Patton Boggs
- Lisa Saad, AmCham Qatar Executive Director
This year's mission involved meetings with OMB Director Mick Mulvaney, 25% of the Senate, members of the US House of Representatives, Joint Committees, National Council on U.S. – Arab Relations, and U.S. Chamber of Commerce. Separately the AmCham Qatar delegation met with Ambassador Ann Patterson, President of the U.S. – Qatar Business Council and Ambassador Sheikh Meshal bin Hamad M.J. Al Thani at the Qatar Embassy.
A summary of meeting initiatives and outcomes was presented to the AmCham Qatar Board of Governors on June 5, 2018 and full report of the May 2018 Doorknock is being developed by Mike Jones from the Capital Group.
