The top ensemble at RPJH is comprised of students representing all instruments in the band program, and is made up of 7th and 8th grade students by audition only. SB1 participates in pep rallies, district ensemble contest and various concert band competitions throughout the spring semester. Members also participate in individual events throughout the year including All-Region Auditions, solo contest and various other activities throughout the year.

Students are highly encouraged to participate in private lessons, which are critical to the success of the program.

The Beginning Band is comprised of students that do not have prior experience on a wind or percussion instrument. All students receive instruction on fundamental tone, rhythmic concepts and basic reading music skills. Students are taught in homogeneous classes throughout the school day. No musical experience is necessary.

Beginning Band students may participate in Winter & Spring Concerts and one concert band competition during the spring semester.
