Mrs. Shantel Octave
My Teaching Philosophy: I am a big believer that teachers and parents are partners in education. I work hard to keep parents informed about happenings in the classroom, so that you are up-to-date on your child's education. If your child is having successes or difficulties, I will let you know about it, make suggestions on how you can help, and work with you to provide any additional assistance. Likewise, I want to feel free to contact me about your child's academic progress. We must keep the lines of communication open.
My name is Shantel Octave. I am the RLA Instructional Coach at Nolan Ryan Junior High. I will also be teaching 6th grade Reading and Writing.
I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Louisiana Tech University. I also have a Master's degree in Education with a specialization in Curriculum and Instruction and a Master's endorsement in Educational Leadership from Western Governor's University. I also have a Doctor of Jurisprudence from Loyola University New Orleans.
This is my 14th year in education. I have taught ELA and Social Studies classes from 5th through 8th grade.
When not at school, my husband of 20 years, Shannon, and I spent time with our 2 sons, Shannon Jr and Shayler. In my free time, I enjoy reading, writing, cooking, baking, and solving puzzles. My family and I are huge New Orleans Saints fans!
I recently published my first novel. The novel is called "Face Everything and Rise."
