Mr. Jerry Dunigan
Welcome to 6th Grade World Cultures
Hi, and welcome to my classroom. My name is Jerry Dunigan and I am your social studies teacher. In sixth grade we learn about world cultures. It is intended to build the foundations for both geography and world history. I am excited to be here.
To give you a little about my background, teaching is my second career. I spent most of my adult life in retail management, mostly at auto parts stores. I have also spent over 25 years volunteering with the Boy Scouts of America. It was doing scouts that showed me what I really wanted to do when I grow up! So I spent two years at Alvin Community College getting my basic classes done, then completed my BA in History at the University of Houston Clear Lake. I am certified to teach 7-12 Social Studies and 4-8 General Studies.
Personally I have been married for 38 years. Carol and I have two grown sons and two grandchildren. We are both also active at our church. I love to camp, fish, canoe, and I do woodworking. I also love to read and learn about history and other cultures. My deepest interest is in Native American history, which I intend to get my Masters in a few years from now. I believe that it is absolutely essential for our kids to understand our world and our history if they are to become the leaders we need. I also believe they need to know how to communicate what they believe effectively, and we will be using many different methods of communication.
I expect you to come into my classroom prepared and ready to learn. You will need the following supplies everyday:
Pencil or pen
Your AVID binder, including your school-provided planner, a section for my class, and blank notebook paper.
Map (colored) pencils
My primary method of communication is Google Classroom. I have a different Google Classroom for each of my class periods. You will need a Gmail or compatible email account. Once you have logged into that email, you will see an invitation to join my Google Classroom. Click join.
