Mining will exist and it is crucial to reach the green energy transformation to supply critical raw materials for photovoltaic panels, wind turbines, Li-ion batteries, electronic devices, and green fuels generation. Although the increasing extracting activities to meet the demand, we can transform mining more sustainably.
Sustainable Mining is defined as a "set of mining processes and activities related to the production of raw materials from primary and secondary sources near-to-zero waste generation."
To meet this goal, engineering is needed from molecular to industrial scaling, joining efforts on chemical and physical techniques, creating new materials and processes to enhance extractive processes and recovery materials from mining waste. Social and environmental aspects are not forgotten.
