Abstract: This research was performed to study the difference in the variety of species of macroinvertebrates in rivers versus streams but also the populations of those different species. The problem is determining the difference in the variety of species and the population of each species between a river and a stream. To do this we used a kick net and recorded what we found at each of the 20 test sites. We found there to be a significant difference in the in both groups tested between the river and stream with the river having not only a larger population of macroinvertebrates but also a greater variety.
This graph shows the different species and the different numbers of each species found at any given test location(BC and FP are the same locations in this experiment. We started at Beaver Creek but were forced to move to Fairway Park). BF stands for Big Falls(the river section of this experiment) and FP is Fairway Park(the creek section of this experiment).
The black shapes seen on this map are the test sites used in this experiment. There are twenty on this map but starting at the farthest site on the left we went every other site all the way to the farthest one on the right.
