The clarinet is believed to have been invented in Germany during the late 1700s. That's almost 300 years ago!
It is a woodwind instrument and needs a reed to make sound. The clarinetist blows into the mouthpiece which makes the reed vibrate and uses their fingers to cover the holes and keys to produce different sounds.
