Dear Parents,
As-salaam aleykum
As we complete a third week of Distance Learning, we are all now adjusting to this as the 'normal' mode of learning for the remainder of this term until 2 July, insha'Allah.
With this in mind, there are 3 major announcements
As a school community, I am very aware of the major challenges we are facing in these economic uncertain and insecure times. I am pleased to remind you that a fee discount provision has been put in place by the Board of Governors.
Discount on Term 3 tuition fees
Foundation Stage (FS1 and FS2): 20%
Lower Primary (Years 1,2 and 3): 15%
Upper Primary (Years 4 - 6): 10%
New Secondary school students (Years 7 - 13): 10%
Further details can be found here from the letter sent earlier this week from the Director.
Important information can be found below in the Secondary School and Exams section which affects some Year 10, all of Year 11 Year 12 and Year 13. In summary, we will be running a series of end of course final assessments for all students.
Specifically for the examination boards, they have instructed schools to collate 'teacher assessment' for all IGCSE, AS and A level students. This final grade to be awarded in August 2020, as per previous exams, will be derived from various teacher assessment evidences, including the winter mock exam results, prior learning as seen in the Cycle 2 reports and the upcoming end of course assessments.
As we try to ensure some 'normality', we will endeavour to replicate our approved calendar. Please be reminded we are closed this Sunday. It affords us all to have a much needed respite from Distance Learning. The usual schedule recommences on Monday 13 April insha'Allah.
Lastly, do follow our Wellbeing blog (please click here) as we all seek mutual support in these challenging times:

We had a great week! With over 92% attendance from FS to Year 6 in our live sessions. Students are engaged and enthusiastic to join sessions and meet with their teachers and peers. In primary, we are constantly updating our timetable based on our parents feedback to accommodate all families. We have live sessions in the morning and evening and our slides have recorded video tutorials to support all of our students. The coming 2 weeks will give us an opportunity to assess students through online quizzes, learning showcases and checking student work.
Our students also prepared art and thank you notes to thank all the health care professionals in the UAE and around the world! Please follow us on Instagram to see our students pictures!
With the long weekend, we wish to share the #homeskillschallenge
Given the situation we are in, it is the best time for our children to learn various real life skills around the house, explore new talents/ hobbies, and spend quality family time together.
Take pictures / videos of your family doing various household chores together like gardening, organising your home, playing family games, exploring new talents/ hobbies, family fitness routines, etc. and share them with us.
We will be happy to share these on our school social media platform.
We look forward to receiving your pictures/ videos.

Dear Parents, Guardians and Learners,
I hope that this message finds you in good health and high spirits. I would like to start by thanking everyone for their ongoing contributions in collaborative discussions, which have informed our approach towards conducting End of Course Assessments in May 2020, for Years 11 to 13.
Based on discussions with all stakeholders, there has been a consensus that we should proceed with End of Course Assessments, the details of which are included within the attached document, “ASCS 2019/2020: Online End of Course Assessment Procedures and Agreements”.
Within this document, it outlines specific details, including:
The document is the agreed product of a collaborative process, in which parents, teachers, leadership members, management, governors and Student Council representatives have provided comments, feedback and suggestions. In the near future, we will be providing Revision Guides for all subjects as a resource for our learners.

As always, I would like to thank you for your patience and support in these most unprecedented circumstances. At Al Salam Community School, our aim is to ensure that we provide all learners with opportunities to exceed their expectations, with fairness and consistency for everyone.
