Dear Parents,
As-salaam aleykum
School Calendar and school day timings for 2020-21
As we look forward to returning to 'normal' schooling in the next Academic Year, insha'Allah, I would like to share with you our KHDA approved calendar for students for 2020-21.
(Please be sure to view the calendar using your official school P-code e-mail address)
This is assuming all restrictions on COVID-19 are lifted by 30 August 2020, insha'Allah.
In light of this, we have also modified some of the timings for the school day to allow even more exciting learning and activities to take place.
FS will commence from 7:40am to 1:20pm (doors will be open from 7:30am)
For all other year groups in Primary and Secondary (Years 1 - 13) the day will commence at 7:30am and finish at 2:45pm. (School gate to open from 7:15 am)
We hope this provides some certainty for the year ahead as we look back from this challenging academic year insha'Allah.

On 23rd April, Primary School had a fun day to mark the end of the 1st half of Term 3. Students prepared snacks and dressed up in the bright and beautiful colours of Ramadan to celebrate the beginning of the holy month. With fun activities and a light day, students enjoyed their virtual celebration with friends.
This week has been an exciting beginning to the 2nd half of Term 3 for us! We look forward to more exciting and fun learning opportunities for our children.
Term 2 Reports, for the duration of January to 5th March, were issued on Thursday 30th April 2020. Please check your parent code email for the same.

Students and parents have a chance to impact the community. Zuhair Ahmed Waleed Y11, Abdullah Suhail Y10, Muhammad Umar Bhura Y10 and Shaza Desouki Y10 got their online certificates on MBRU course on Breaking the Chain of COVID-19 Infection.
This program provides rapid training on key aspects of infection and immunity to empower community-based advocacy on how to prevent and control the spread of COVID-19. The course covers the chain of infection, how infectious diseases are transmitted and how to break the chain of infection through concrete preventive actions.
Climate change demonstrates the greatest challenge to the future of humanity and the natural life-support system that make our world habitable. We have polluted water bodies, depleted forests; wetlands, made air suffocating, overexploited natural resources. Today due to (COVID-19) pandemic, millions of people across the world are living under strict lockdown, causing unmatched reductions in human activity. As expected, this has made a distinctive impact on the planet. This shows that we humans need to learn and mend our ways of living on earth.
Recent ongoing studies on COVID-19 shows that poor air quality is an add on factor for the spread of the disease. In an assigned task science students of Year 10A/C were asked to link the respiratory system,COVID-19 and Earth day theme as a mark of celebrating this day. Taha, Sewar, Hana, Hania, Nargiz and Marwa made an effort to create awareness about climate change and its effect on the humans which if overlooked may lead to development and spread of more deadly diseases than COVID-19.

Students were learning all about light this week and the laws of reflection! They created their own ray boxes at home and were investigating how light reflects when it strikes a mirror. They are aware that light travels in straight lines and were interested to see what would happen during reflection. All students did a fantastic job and made use of materials they had at home in order to complete the investigation.

The virtual learning tour was a wonderful experience that the students enjoyed immensely. I shared my screen and started the tour by moving around the museum. We looked at the displayed artwork, piece by piece, and learned a lot about Arab artists in the Middle East and how each artist’s style differs from the others’.
It was an immersive journey. We pored over the paintings and discussed their effects critically - colours, shapes and texture, while debating on why we liked or did not like a certain painting.
It was such an enriching experience that we have planned a virtual visit to the Louvre Museum in France next week.

Dear Parents, Guardians and Learners,
I hope that this message finds you in good health and high spirits. With the assessments beginning next week, I would like to write to provide some reminders as well as to thank all members of our school’s community for their positivity and contributions to this process.
Firstly, I would like to advise some additional information regarding the procedures for the start of the assessment, as well as to remind learners of certain expectations.
Please be reminded that learners, or parents/guardians, should have completed the Google Form entitled, “ASCS 2019/2020: Online End of Course Assessments - Procedures and Guidelines Agreement”. Additionally, please check the ASCS 2019/20: End of Course Assessment Student Timetable, as there are some slight changes that have been made.
Finally, I would like to say to our learners that I hope they do extremely well on their upcoming assessments, and that they are in a position where they feel prepared and positive. I once again encourage all learners to try their best, and to ensure that they are demonstrating values that we all aspire towards; motivation, integrity and honesty.
Respectfully yours,
Mr. Harvey Furniss
