Thank you to those parents who attended our first Parent Teacher Meeting last week. We received a lot of positive feedback from parents, and your contribution to the event helped make it a success. Feedback on the online booking system was overwhelmingly positive too.
For those parents who were unable to schedule an appointment, please e-mail the concerned teachers, to arrange for feedback we will arrange additional dates for you to attend. Thank you again for your great support.
Lastly please apply and collect your parents ID badges as we will launch the new site access protocols later this month.
Please ensure you use the following form to report the absence of your child.
This enables direct communication to the concerned form tutor and staff. It also enables you to report absence out of hours and avoids any frustration of trying to call outside of school hours:
Please use the following link: Student absence reporting form
ASCS now has official channels for communication which will be used to ensure your e-mail is attended to:

primary@alsalamcommunity.ae - queries, concerns, feedback to Y1-Y6
secondary@alsalamcommunity.ae - queries, concerns, feedback to Y7-Y13
clinic@alsalamcommunity.ae - queries, concerns, feedback regarding health
As part of our ongoing commitments to ensure a minority of parents do not affect the vast majority of parents positive interaction with ASCS, I have published below the expectations of how we expect courtesy when interacting with our staff members.

BEng (Hons.) MA PGCE (Cantab.) NPQH NPQELFS children had a very enjoyable week playing, interacting and learning with their friends. Our second weekly assembly was a great success with a wonderful, energetic performance from FS1B! Well done to the following children who received a 'Thank You' note from their teachers: Rawan (FS1A), Anas (FS1B) Jad (FS2A), Omar (FS2B) and Hamdan (Arabic & Islamic Studies). They are a positive example to us all and it is very heartwarming to see how proud the children are when receiving their note!
The children are also very excited about their first school trip this week to Little Explorers (FS1) and Kidzania (FS2) which will help them connect their learning from school in a meaningful, rich way. Please remember to submit the signed form and payment by the due date on the form if you would like your child to attend.
Our students engaged in tolerance week activities including Friendship Day, Anti-Bullying Day, Circle of Trust Day and Odd Socks Day. During these activities, students bonded with their friends, made new friends and learnt that 'Every Child is Special' and loved! - the Al Salam ethos. Students discussed the importance of tolerance on humanity, and why the UAE chose the year of 2019 as the year of tolerance.
We loved meeting our parents on Wednesday during the PTM. We discussed targets and what practices at school and home will ensure that every student reaches his/her target.
Additionally, our Year 3 students, had a rewarding time during the 'Clean Up the World' campaign on Thursday. ASCS primary aims at being environmentally aware by participating in such events, recycling within school grounds, assigning students roles including 'Eco Monitors' to ensure we start our awareness at our own school.

Our inaugural Parents in Partnership session went extremely well last week. It was good to see so many parents who joined us to “Meet the Secondary Leadership Team”.
Our next session will be in the FS Activity Room from 8.30 - 9.30 am on Monday 18th November when we will be joined by our counselling and community team - Ms Amanda; Ms Zahra and Ms Najda for “Coffee with the Counsellors”.
Emirates Environmental Group (EEG) conducted the 19th Cycle of the Annual Students’ Workshops, on 4th – 6th of November 2019, on the topic of “Unlock the Seasons” at The Rashid School for Boys.
Through the theme ‘Unlocking the Seasons’ students learnt how to adapt and make the best use of the benefits the four seasons have to offer. Elements of each season encompass the problems, the realities and the innovative solutions. The aim of the workshops is to instill awareness and stimulate discussion on the various Sustainable Development Goals and how to adapt to the changing climate and master the art of identifying the best solution in every difficult environmental scenario.
This workshops included interactive brain storming sessions, debates, interactive expert presentations, discussions and hands on practical exercises, influencing students to cooperate and learn from each other. After the conclusion of each day of the workshop, certificates of participation were awarded to the students and the accompanying teachers.
The following students from Year 9 attended the workshop on 5th November:
