Newsletter 13 October 2019
Dear Parents,
I write with great pleasure in announcing our first day at our purpose-built site at Al Twar 2. Today all of the Secondary school students commenced their education here at 8am. Looking at the faces of the students and parents, we were very pleased with the reaction and relief of relocating to our new campus. We thank you all for your patience over the past 6 weeks.
Tomorrow is the first day for all of Primary and we look forward to welcoming all the students from FS to Year 6 insha'Allah.
Some parents were concerned about having to park outside the school and pick up their secondary school students from the school site, when they prefer that they walk to their cars. In the interest of child protection and safety, we can only permit students in Year 7 to 13 to exit the site with a 'walk home pass'. Please apply for this free pass by completing the form here.
We have listened to the demands of parents especially in the Secondary school, we will offer 2 days of additional learning on Wednesday 23rd October and Thursday 24th October at the end of half-term. Normal timetables will apply with additional learning in Period 7 (2:15pm to 3pm) to help make up loss of learning time due to our temporary provision.
Further schedules for additional learning in Secondary will be given after half-term.
The Shuttle Bus from Al Salam Private School (ASPS) to Al Salam Community School (ASCS) was originally for existing Secondary students with younger siblings at Al Salam Private School Primary. As our first day showed significant arrival delay, the shuttle buses will now leave from 7:20am every morning from ASPS and we aim to depart from ASCS at 4pm everyday.
Many other parents have expressed a desire to also have this transport for their children due to living in Al Nahda 2/close to ASPS.
We can only offer this as a paid service on the usual paid school bus route from Al Nahda to ASCS. Please fill up this bus request form here.
Normal paid service buses leave ASCS at 3:10pm.
We will arrange formal school tours and open days for parents to visit our lovely new campus after half-term.
Thank you all again for your patience and support and excellent feedback in helping us shape Al Salam Community School.
