Dear Parents/Guardians,
Another busy week at ASCS with so many events having taken place and planned for. I want to remind parents about safety on the road for morning and afternoon collection. Two recent deaths outside schools in the UAE, have highlighted the concerns about safe car use outside of schools.
We look forward to seeing you at the end of this week in our first formal Parent-Teacher meetings.

FS1 and FS2 enjoyed their first assembly on Thursday 7th November 2019. We enjoyed watching a delightful performance from FS1A who sang 'Incy Wincy Spider' for the other classes. Every week during assembly, a class will perform for their FS peers to boost the children's confidence presenting in front of an audience, as well as develop a communal spirit among the children.
Each FS teacher also wrote a thank you note for a child from their class to show gratitude for something they did well in class. Here are the first set of recipients of the teachers' thank you notes- well done to these friends!
This week FS1 are continuing to learn about Superheroes as part of their topic on Toys. FS2 are extending their learning about community helpers to 'people who make things for us', focusing on the roles of people who provide food and services. Please refer to the weekly newsletter for more detailed objectives and ways to support your child at home.
Letters for the first term's trips have been sent home. If you would like your child to attend the specified trip, please ensure the permission form and payment is returned to the class teacher by the deadline date mentioned on the form. We are all so excited for our first trip and looking forward to a fun-filled week ahead!
Ms Nisreen, Head of FS
What an exciting week! We celebrated Flag Day 2019 by raising the UAE Flag high and proud! Our Year 4 to 6 students also celebrated with the Dubai Police at headquarters. WE have also started the Oxford Reading Tree program where students took home their reading books based on their level and read the books with their families. They then filled out a reading log and book report. Reading is very important and strengthens fluency and comprehension.
We look forward to meeting all our parents on Wednesday to discuss student progress and target reports. We also will be starting intervention programs during enrichment, After School Activities (ASA) and the morning Quran Club.
Ms Sara, Head of Primary School
In Music lessons, students explore different musical instruments. We offer a wide range of instruments to cater for our broad community.
We understand the importance of developing 21st Century Skills including research, collaboration and critical thinking. Hence, in Global Perspectives Year 6 worked on research to create a timeline on the history of communication.
Our Students participated in the Chevron's Readers' Cup with Ms. Joy our Primary School Librarian.
On October 31st, the Year 12 seniors of Al Salam Community School organised our very first PINKTOBER festival! As October is breast cancer awareness month, there was no better way to end it than to raise awareness about it. They set up stalls and games with different activities to help educate students and teachers a little more about breast cancer. Throughout the week from the 27th to 31st, a poster making competition was announced so students could make posters to help raise awareness about breast cancer and the winners were awarded with prizes.
They started off the fest with a little energy. Hence, it was understandable that they had a cheering squad on the football pitch! They held letters which spelt “THINK PINK” which students and teachers helped repeat. Pom poms...letter cutouts...loud music, they had it all! This was followed by a countdown to release 10 balloons to represent October as breast cancer month.
In addition, there were many stalls with different games and activities for students and teachers to participate in. Some seniors asked others questions to test their knowledge about breast cancer. There was also face painting, so our artistic students helped draw the pink ribbon on people’s faces. For those that really wanted to get ‘hands-on’, there was a huge chart with a ribbon drawn on it which they could paint with their hands because in the end, the only way to overcome breast cancer is by working together. And who could forget classical musical chairs to help us get active, as exercise helps reduce the risk of breast cancer. Finally, there was a mini bowling alley with pink pins and a ‘knock the cups’ station. All the winners received pink ribbons as a prize. The main aim was to raise awareness in every way possible either by sticking posters on the walls, or sticking facts on the bowling pins, etc.
In conclusion, the event wouldn’t have been possible without the help and support of Mrs. Amanda and Mrs. Nima. This is the first of many events for year 12!
Bola - Yr 12
Many many congrats and thanks to all - it was a truly wonderful day.
In the Secondary School we value our relationship with parents highly and constantly strive to build the partnership between school and home.
We are also ever mindful that we would like to increase our lines of communication and give parents a strong voice and share information effectively.
To that aim we are setting up weekly Parents in Partnership sessions from 8.30 - 9.30 am every Monday in the FS Activity Room.
You are cordially invited to attend these sessions during which we will have elements of training; information sharing and developing relationships.
We will hold our inaugural session tomorrow, Monday 11 November when you will have an opportunity to: Meet The Secondary School Senior Leadership Team"
All Secondary parents are very welcome to attend - I do hope to see you there.
Ms Jacqui, Head of Secondary
On Sunday 3rd November we celebrated Flag Day to mark the anniversary of HH Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan becoming the president in 2004.
All children from FS - Secondary participated in the event.
We are delighted to welcome Magrundy's to our school for 3 days from 10th-12th November. Secondary Book Fair will be on Tuesday 12th. Our students will have the opportunity to visit the Book Fair and select their favourite titles. They will receive a slip to take home to parents which mentions the book title and amount, parents can then send the money with their children to purchase their chosen books!
We are pleased to welcome parents daily during the 3 day event between 2.30-3.30pm in the Primary Activity Hall.
