• Students collaborate with their lab groups to design their 3D rocket. Please reference the following:

Re-engineer your rocket as needed in Tinkercad

• When you are satisfied with your rocket design, ONE team member needs to email your team's .stl file file at gwestbroek@alpinedistrict.org to put in the print que!

• WARNING: Remember that thin and small parts DO NOT print well. I recommend nothing smaller than 2mm.

9/5/2023 - Motion, and energy

• Students make a copy of today's starter, respond to both prompts.

• Students watch a short video before responding to the I Notice, I Wonder slide.

• Students complete a lab and submit a Canvas lab report.

8/31/2023 - Motion, energy, and collisions

• Students make a copy of today's starter, respond to both prompts.

• Students take a quiz related to scientific measurement.

• Students explore a simulation of collision carts. They are reminded they have ONE chance at the quiz and their efforts on the simulation will help them succeed on the quiz!

• Students take a quiz about force, motion, and these collision carts.

• Students are join into groups and begin creating their group's 3D rocket model using Tinkercad. Exact dimensions needed for the rocket are provided below:

  • • Engine diameter 12.2 mm

    • Engine length  43.71 mm

    • Engine Mass 6.5 g

    • Launch pole diameter 2.8mm

    • The maximum rocket height I can print is 150mm. I HIGHLY recommend rocket heights be less that this number!

    • The maximum rocket base I can print is 150 mm * 150 mm. I HIGHLY recommend rocket base size to be less than this number!

  • Each group should work on their design collaboratively (each person should NOT design their own rocket.) Students are reminded this is to be their unique design - not a design previously created by someone else.

  • Students may email their .STL file to me to check the rocket mass. I will respond by email with that data.

    • Export and save the merged rocket design as a .STL file to your ChromeBook.

    • Upload the .STL file in an email to me gwestbroek@alpinedistrict.org

• I do not recommend that students finish rocket their design today.  Additional class periods will be provided to continue working on the design. Prior to these work sessions, class time will provide more information regarding engineering and the application of Newton's laws.

8/29/2023 - Practicing 3D design

• Students watch a video about the BYU Rocketry Team.

• Students review how to measure length with metrics.

• Students are join into groups and practice creating a group 3D model using Tinkercad. NOT YET A ROCKET DESIGN!

8/25/2023 - Practicing measurements

• Students make a copy of today's starter, respond to all six prompts.

• Students watch a short video about measuring crocodiles and discuss observations.

• B1 students are introduced to the new computer sign-up Flex system.

• Students take part in a measuring activity and submit the Canvas Assignment.

• Students are allowed to practice creating a 3D model using Tinkercad. 

8/23/2023 - Newton's first two laws

• Students make a copy of today's starter, respond to both prompts.

• Students watch a short YouTube video about building a race boat and discuss what might change the outcome. They then watch this second YouTube video about Hydroplanes and discuss changes observed.

• Students read a short article and answer questions related Newton's First & Second Laws on a Canvas assignment.

• Students test their Chromebook camera as instructed.

• Students are introduced to how they will create 3D model rockets using Tinkercad. Use the link combined with using your first name (all lower case letters) as your nickname.
