PSF (Phoneme Segmentation Fluency): A phoneme is the smallest unit of sound in a word. For example, the word cat is made up of 3 phonemes (or three sounds):/c/ /a/ /t/. The word fish is also made up of three phonemes (or three sounds) even though fish has four letters: /f/ /i/ /sh/. For this assessment, the student is given a word, and he/she needs to break it apart and say each sound in that word. Practice saying words at home, and have your child break apart and say each sound in that word. Do as many words as possible in one minute.Â
