Many wonder whether we will be going to online school in the fall. With all of the uncertainty with online learning and the coronavirus, teachers are asked to prepare for all scenarios. This website and our Google classroom will be a big help to your child and his/her success. To access the Google Classroom, please have your child sign into Google classroom with their Alpine District email and join our Lewis 2020-2021 class with the code: 7hxmaxc.
Our first book report will be an Informational book report. It will be due Sept. 26. The students will choose an informational book to read. They will have the choice as to how they would like to present their book report. Information was sent home the first week.
The next book report for our students will be a Realistic Fiction. The students will get the book report information next week. It is already posted on the Resources page.
Chapter 1
We will be learning about plants and animals and how they function in their environments.
The first writing we will be doing is personal narrative writing. This will be a fun opportunity for the students to think and reflect on things in their lives and create a writing piece centered around something that has occurred in their life.
The students are first going to learn about the geography of Utah. They will learn about latitude and longitude, relative and absolute location, landforms, regions, rivers, lakes, mountains, cities, National Parks, and more. The students will be creating a brochure for a Road Trip through Utah, and a culminating activity will be a Utah Cake project in which they will label these things on a cake of Utah. This unit ties in well with our Science study of Environments.
Aug. 18 - First Day of School
It is a good idea to start out the year with clear expectations as to what is the routine in your home. A good habit takes at least 21 days to set as a habit. Have a specific place that is quiet from interruptions and distractions where your child can do homework. Each night your child should read at least 30 minutes.
We like to celebrate our students in our class as close to their birthdays as possible. Each child will be assigned a week to be the MVP. Ask your child for this paper that tells when your child is the MVP. Each child will be able to share a poster (I provide) with the rest of the class. Birthday treats are a great way to celebrate, but are optional. Any treat must be store bought. During the months of Aug. - Sept. , we will celebrate the following students:
Check to see when we celebrate your child.
We are each gifted in a unique and important way. It is our privilege and our adventure to discover our own special light.
~Evelyn Dunbar
Many students need some help with their Math Basic Facts. I will be setting up the students to be able to use the website called Freckle. Yes, I know, that is a silly name. Just go to freckle.com and have the child type in their name. The class code is M8CQD3.
The beginning of the year is a great time to purchase and store some school supplies that your child might want to use throughout the year. Of course, pencils are a must, yet your child may need some whiteboard markers, some glue sticks, or pens. With the Covid-19 uncertainties, many parents choose to have their child have their own supplies, both at school and at home. If you are not able to get any supplies, it will be provided by the school. Thanks for supporting your child this year with what he/she needs. The following is a list of the supplies we will be using this year.
Sharpened #2 Ticonderoga pencils
Black dry erase markers with eraser
Glue sticks
Pencil pouch or pencil box
2 composition notebooks
2 spiral notebooks
Scissors
Crayons
Sticky notes
Chlorox wipes
Kleenex tissues
Hand sanitizer
