Per Class

• density tank (use tank from Lesson 18)

• 2 500 mL beakers (2 cups of room temperature in each)

• 4 tablespoons salt

• food coloring (blue and green)

Per Student

• red and blue colored pencil, crayon, or marker

• science notebook

Prep

Prepare 

• Set up the materials for the teacher demonstration ahead of time. Pre-measure the salt (4 tablespoons), fill two 500 mL beakers with room temperature water, and check that the density tank is clean and the divider is functional.
