8th SEEd SCIENCE

Disclosure Document-

MR. PANE’E C131

Aloha! Welcome to 8th SEEd Science. I have more fun teaching this subject than any other subject. I have acquired many new toys, labs, activities, and projects to help teach this exciting class. So, come prepared to learn, have fun, and do some outrages labs. By the way, do you know how I spell science? Answer: FUN!

CLASS RULES

In my class there are safety rules you MUST FOLLOW. In order to make chemistry safe for everyone, all safety rules must be followed. Before anyone in the class can work on a lab, each individual student must pass a safety rule quiz. If you are warned three times about safety violations, you lose your privilege of doing labs and experiments. Worksheets and bookwork will be assigned on lab days for these students.

1) Anything that is dangerous, destructive, or disruptive to any student, faculty, or staff will not be tolerated. This includes fighting, running in the room, wrestling, throwing things, and anything I deem dangerous.

2) Writing on the desks, destructions to textbooks, class equipment, other student’s personal things, and littering in the classroom will not be tolerated. These will be treated as acts of vandalism.

3) No student has the right to deny any other student the right to learn. This includes keeping me from teaching.

4) Use of cell phones and other electronic devices may be allowed in class under specific instructions and permission from Mr. Panee. We will be using timers and calculators in this class and if you have these things on your electronic devices you may use them. Texting in my class is prohibited unless approved by Mr. Panee

5) You must come to class prepared. Each student needs to bring a pencil or pen, and paper each day.

ABSENCES - TARDIES

Absences and tardies will be treated according to school policy.

1) If you are absent, you are expected to make-up any assignments or tests by two weeks from the due date. You are responsible for all missed work. Most missing work, except for labs, can be found on canvas.

2) “I will enforce the school tardy policy as outlined in the student handbook.”

GRADING

Your grade will be based on a percentage of total points. Your points will come from tests, quizzes, homework, labs, term projects, and class notes which will make up 90% of your grade. The remaining 10% is based on your participation in class, and how well you follow the class rules.

1) Homework assignments will be given in each chapter. The due dates for the homework assignments will be written on the board and will be due on those dates by 3:00 pm. Any unexcused homework turned in after the due date will be accepted but penalized 50%. No late work will be accepted after two weeks from the due date.

2) Every student will be given 50 points in the beginning of each term. This means that every student begins this course with an A. The grade at the end of the term is up to you. I believe at starting at the top.

3) Grading scale: A = 93 -100 A- = 89 - 92

B+ = 86 - 88 B = 80 - 85 B- = 76 - 79

C+ = 71 - 75 C = 65 - 70 C- = 60 - 64

D+ = 58 - 59 D = 53 - 57 D- = 50 - 52

F = 0 - 49

*** In all cases the above break down will be used to determine grades.

At times in class, students may exchange papers, quizzes, and/or tests before being corrected by other students. Also, class work will be corrected and entered into the grade book by my student aid. If this is a problem, please contact me as soon as possible. By signing below, you are giving me permission to correct and enter grades as mentioned above. Also at no time are grades publicly displayed or mentioned with a student’s name. I will use student numbers when posting all grades.

The state provides an online 8th grade SEEd textbook for your student. This textbook can be found here. It contains all the curriculum you will be covering in this class this year. Also, each student will be assessed a $10.00 lab fee to cover some of the materials you will use in class. This is paid with your school fees.

1) Tests, quizzes, and homework assignments will be graded objectively. Your scores will be available within two days. You will be able to check Skyward for your grades shortly after. Any late work submitted after the due date may take longer than the two day period but will be corrected and input into Skyward at the teacher's convenience.

2) We will be using Chromebooks in our classroom for many assignments and assessments. In order to develop a culture of respect for these technological tools; rules and guidelines are set up to help protect these Chromebooks. Here are the Chromebook rules that all students will be following. You can view them here.

3) At times it may seem that we are moving too fast. If this happens to you, collect yourself, take a deep breath, and see me for help. I would hate to see you fall too far behind. I will always be there for you. Try me.

If you or your parents have any questions, please feel free to call me at school ph.# 610-8138 Ext 131 or email me at epanee@alpinedistrict.org. I am more than happy to hear from you and am willing to help in any way. We have the whole year ahead of us, so lets have some fun.
