grading

 We grade on a standards based grading system in Alpine District. Students are assessed on a mastery level from 1-4.

• 1 = Insufficient Mastery of the Standard: Student is well below grade level expectations and has demonstrated insufficient proficiency of the standard.

• 2 = Limited Mastery of the Standard: Student is below grade level expectations and has demonstrated limited proficiency of the standard.

• 3 = Mastery of the Standard: Student is working at expected grade level proficiency at this time and is on track to master the standard by the end of the school year.

• 4 = Mastery Beyond the Standard: Student demonstrates early mastery of this standard and is working to expand and deepen understanding.

I encourage you to check Mastery Connect weekly to see your child's scores. 

birthdays

Students are welcome to bring a treat (store-bought ONLY) to celebrate their birthday with their classmates. Please keep in mind that we are an allergy aware classroom. 

Treats will be served at the end of the day, please have them here by then so they get passed out. Please be sure to bring enough for every student in our class!

• If your student’s birthday falls on a day that we are not in school, they are welcome to celebrate the day we return back to school. 

• Summer birthdays will be celebrated on the student’s half birthday. 

(This is OPTIONAL!)

behavior planner

Behavior: My behavior management is to always reward and focus on the positive. We will be earning class rewards throughout the year as well as individual rewards using student's planner. If there happens to be a problem, I will give a warning and address the behavior that needs to be corrected. If the student does not correct their behavior, I will get you involved and we will work together to come up with a plan that will work for your child.

The way I do this is through the planner looks like this ...

I use the last 10 minutes of each day to conference with each child and end the day on a positive note (even if it wasn't a stellar day). Students receive a smiley, straight face or a sad face. 

• A smiley face is a great day! 

• A straight face is a warning day and means we talked about things and resolved them in class. Straight faces are NOT a bad day or behavior problem. It simply means your child needs to make better choices tomorrow :)

• A sad face will be accompanied with a follow up from me about what happened. 

Lunch & lunch boxes

We have a large bin in our classroom where students will place their lunch boxes after lunch eat day.  

recess equipment

Recess equipment will be available for students to use. While at recess students are expected to follow the rules in place for our playground, and to follow the directions of the recess aides. If there are problems at recess that are reported to me, it will be reflected in the students planner that day. 

fun friday

On Friday afternoon, if students have all of their work complete they will have the opportunity to participate in Fun Friday. This is a great incentive to get their work done throughout the week! Fun Friday has different choices depending on the week but some options include: STEM bins, free game time on Mrs. Stonely's website, board games, coding, an art project, among many others!
