Burial

On the Burial of the Dead

The liturgy for the dead is an Easter liturgy. It finds all its meaning in the resurrection. Because Jesus was raised from the dead, we, too, shall be raised. The liturgy, therefore, is characterized by joy, in the certainty that “neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

~Book of Common Prayer, page 507

On the death of a loved one, no matter if expected, those who are left behind will often find themselves having to make difficult and emotional decisions. Sometimes without an elongated time to prepare. This guide will help you make those decisions whether decades before one's death or after.

All Saints’ clergy and staff are ready to assist whenever the need arises and can help walk you through this process. This resource pulls together the beautiful and rich resources the church offers within the Book of Common Prayer and other authorized liturgies.

Those who are responsible for making the funeral arrangements should contact the church and schedule a time with clergy to discuss arrangements. If you have a preference of clergy, that can be made known at the time of the appointment scheduling and we will accommodate that request as best as possible. It is helpful to have in mind, after consulting the needs of family, friends, and out-of-town mourners a date in which the service would like to be held. We will cross-check at the time of the appointment and make sure the church is available.
