Mr. Hecht P.E. Grades 1-2 & 5,6,7,8/Health/Character education
In our class "Physical education is the study, practice, and appreciation of the art and science of human movement" . While movement is both innate and essential to an individual's growth and development, it is the role of physical education to provide instructional activities that not only promote skill development and proficiency, but also enhance an individual's overall health. Physical education not only fulfills a unique role in education, but is also an integral part of the schooling process.
In our class students will learn that health is a social science that draws from the biological, environmental, psychological, physical and medical sciences to promote health and prevent disease, disability and premature death through education-driven voluntary behavior change activities. Comprehensive health education also encompasses all aspects of a young person's life. Included are, among other things: skills, attitudes, and practices of children and youth that are conducive to their good health and that promote wellness, health maintenance, and disease prevention.
In our class students will experience lessons that foster ethical, responsible, and caring young people by modeling and teaching good character through an emphasis on universal values that we all share.
It is the intentional and proactive effort by schools, districts and states to instill in their students important core, ethical values such as respect for self and others, responsibility, integrity and self-discipline. It is not a “quick fix” or cure-all. It provides long-term solutions that address moral, ethical and academic issues that are of growing concern about our society and the safety of our schools.
Character Education may address such critical concerns as student absenteeism, discipline problems, drug abuse, gang violence, teen pregnancy and poor academic performance. At its best, character education integrates positive values into every aspect of the school day.
We are all in this together. These are tough times that your child/children must experience. Together, I believe that we can help your child/children reach the highest level of academic excellence.
Help students and parents help themselves by making resources easily accessible.
