Reforestation projects of note that A Living Tribute has co-sponsored or contributed to (2014-2024)
Since its launch in 2014, A Living Tribute has planted over 800,000 trees, honoring friends and loved ones through the gift of reforestation.
A Living Tribute supports tree planting and reforestation efforts nationwide, prioritizing forests in greatest need, while also assisting underfunded locations and tree planting programs. We are dedicated to using green gift giving to expand green spaces in the US and Canada, and creating a lasting environmental legacy for our future generations.

Eldorado National Forest (California)
South Lake Tahoe
The Emerald Fire
In 2016, a fast-moving wildfire broke out on a hillside near Emerald Bay. Known as the Emerald Fire, it burned 196 acres and destroyed over 85% of the trees in the area. Replanting efforts established sugar pines and Jeffrey pines on the burn scar.
Coeur D’Alene National Forest (Idaho)
North Fork of the Coeur D’Alene River
The Grizzly Complex Fire
The Grizzly Complex Fire of 2015 scorched a remarkable 30,000 acres. In response, replanting efforts introduced Engelmann spruce, western larch, and blister-rust-resistant western white pine to the affected area.
Shoshone National Forest (Wyoming)
Burroughs Creek Loop
The Burroughs Fire
The Burroughs Fire ravaged over 1,700 acres in the fall of 2013. Replanting efforts introduced whitebark pines to help restore integral forest within the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem, home to wildlife such as bighorn sheep and grizzly bears.
Malheur National Forest (Oregon)
Blue Mountain Ranger District
The South Fork Complex Fire
In 2014, the South Fork Fire burned through 66,000 acres. This reforestation project contributed to vegetative recovery by manually replanting areas where conifer regeneration may have taken decades to occur naturally.
Seminole State Forest (Florida)
Isti Sandhill
Longleaf Pine Restoration
Following the encroachment of the Sandhill Pine species, restoration became essential to maintain a natural, functioning ecosystem. The project reintroduced native Longleaf Pine, creating habitat for a diverse range of wildlife, including the Florida black bear.
Oregon State Forests
Willamette Valley
Forest Fire & Logging Reforestation
White oak, black cottonwood, big leaf maple, douglas fir, dogwoods, and many other types of native tree species that thrive in Oregon's hilly landscape were planted to reforest state forest lands damaged by fires, logging and industrial tree plantations.
Cariboo, British Columbia (Canada)
The Hanceville Fire
The Hanceville Fire (2017) scorched approximately 590,000 acres of the Chilcotin with tree stand-destroying flames. To promote species diversity, the following species were planted: Douglas-fir, lodgepole pine, hybrid spruce, ponderosa pine, and trembling aspen.
Goethe State Forest (Florida)
Longleaf Pine Restoration
Goethe State Forest spans 53,587 acres of longleaf pine flatwoods and swamp basins. It is managed for wildlife habitat, outdoor recreation, timber production, and ecological restoration. This project worked on restoring the longleaf pine overstory in an area damaged by wildfire.
GMUG National Forests (Colorado)
Slumgullion Summit
Highway 149 Reforestation
This project focused on rehabilitating a section of the Colorado Highway 149 corridor over Slumgullion Summit, an area severely impacted by a spruce bark beetle infestation. As part of the restoration efforts, a diverse mix of Engelmann spruce, Douglas-fir, and lodgepole pine trees were planted to help revitalize the forest.
Flathead National Forest (Montana)
Swan Lake Ranger District
Industrial Forest Restoration
Reforestation was essential in the Swan Lake Ranger District, a former industrial forest that had been extensively harvested. To restore the ecosystem and promote a healthy, diverse forest, a mix of Western larch, Western white pine, and Ponderosa pine trees were planted on 50+ acres.
Lincoln National Forest (New Mexico)
Sacramento Ranger District
The Scott Able Fire
A mix of Douglas-Fir, Ponderosa Pine, White Fir and Engelmann Spruce tree species were planted within the Sacramento Ranger District of the forest, as part of recovery efforts from the 2000 Scott Able Fire.
Eastern Ontario (Canada)
Rideau Valley
This project worked with local landowners to transform idle land into thriving forests full of native Canadian species like sugar maple, red oak, burr oak, white spruce, white pine, and cedar. These growing trees will provide habitat and shelter for wildlife species like the white-tailed deer, red fox, and pileated woodpecker.
New Brunswick (Canada)
Acadian Forest Restoration
This project planted a mix of native species including eastern white cedar, eastern hemlock, red spruce, white spruce, white pine, red oak, sugar maple, and yellow birch. Tree planting helped provide critical habitat for mammals (such as moose) and birds, including beaver communities that have dams and lodges within the planting site.
Western Quebec (Canada)
Abitibi-Temiscamingue / Rouyn-Noranda
This project focused on restoring old abandoned farmlands. These terrains were cleared for agriculture in the past but never used. Planting trees such as Black Spruce, White Spruce, Tamarack and other native conifers enhanced species diversity and improved wildlife habitat in the area.
Umpqua National Forest (Oregon)
North Umpqua Ranger District
The Umpqua North Complex Fire
Thousands of Incense Cedar, Western White Pine and Douglas fir seedlings were planted in Umpqua National Forest. This project was able to restore over 54 acres of land degraded by the 2017 Umpqua North Complex fire.
Etoniah Creek State Forest (Florida)
Putnam County, Florida
Longleaf Pine Restoration
Longleaf Pine seedlings were planted to restore 70+ hectares of the Etoniah Creek State Forest in Putnam County, restoring an area that's recognized as one of the most species-rich plant communities outside of the tropics.
