Key Stage 3
Key Stage 3 students are usually new to managing a device on their own. Please do not invest in expensive devices as most devices will only last about 3 years. Entry-level laptops or standard iPads will work well for this age group. Entry-level laptops have a bit shorter of a lifespan in comparison to iPads.
Key Stage 4
iPads, and laptops can still be used for this age range. However, students who want to pursue their interests in digital photography, programming, gaming, or other technology-related courses may find a laptop to be more appropriate.
6th Form
Students in the sixth form often favour a device with a keyboard. If you are buying a new device, please keep in mind that it is a long-term investment and may be used in university.
Laptops
Entry-level laptops typically last 3 years before their battery and speed start to degrade. For students in Key Stages 3 and 4, they are a sound investment. An entry-level laptop typically costs between RM2500 and RM4000. More expensive laptops typically have a lifespan of 3 to 5 years.
iPads
The standard entry-level iPad will cost just under RM2,500 with an protective case. The lifespan of an iPad is usually 5 year. More advanced iPads such as the iPad Pro or iPads Air may cost the equivalent of a mid-range or advanced laptop.
